Turning a game into movies isn’t something new, and it seems like Activision is interested in bringing another franchise to the big screen. That said, it seems like the company wants Blizzard to make an Overwatch movie.
Overwatch movie on the way?
Fans are in love with the Overwatch lore and get a sneak peek into every character’s story through cinematic shorts. Activision Blizzard might eventually move on from this narrative and end up making a movie in the future instead. Many fans have been clamoring for a film, and now it seems like their dreams might just come true.
Activision Blizzard Consumer Products Group CEO Tim Kilpin recently sat down for an interview with MCVUK where he stated that making a film isn’t out of the question and is something the company would like to do. He added that they take movies based on video games extremely seriously, hence why they want the script and the story to be just right. While a film might not be coming anytime soon, it’s great to hear that they are interested in the idea and wants to do it.
Blizzard has released a slew of Overwatch cinematics since the game launched last year. However, there are still plenty of tidbits the developers have yet to reveal for certain heroes. Characters like D.Va, Lucio, Mercy, and Zenyatta heavily lack lore details and deserve a cinematic short.
Just recently, they dropped a new cinematic for Reinhardt during BlizzCon 2017. Hopefully, Blizzard can keep up the pace and release more shorts in the near future. For now, fans will have to keep waiting for the Overwatch movie. Those who want to play the game can get a copy for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Meanwhile, you can watch all of the cinematics on YouTube.
